Wow! We have
certainly jumped headfirst into a TON of ministry this week! Yesterday morning,
we had an assembly at North Grecian Street Primary School. This year’s theme
for our assemblies in schools is “Promises”—promises Jesus made, and the fact
that, “Jesus says what he means and means what he says!” (Which was a fun
phrase to try and make all the primary school age kids yell as fast as they
could!) We actually make up the entire assembly ourselves—we put on a skit that
has to do with the topic we want to talk about that day, and either Josh (one
of my leaders) or Henry (the vicar at St. James) has a short talk to the kids
about how they can apply the lesson to their lives.
This week we
are putting on a skit of our modern-day version of how Jesus loves the little
children. Christine and I are the disciples, and we start off the skit by
talking about how bored we are and how we want to find something to do. Then
Robby (Jesus) comes in and asks if we’d like to go on an adventure with him, so
we get very enthusiastic about it. As we start to go on our adventure, Jarred
and Jacobs (the children) crawl in on their hands and knees and try to get
Jesus’ attention. Christine and I go over and yell at them to be quiet, at
which point they begin screaming and throwing a temper tantrum. Jesus then
calms the “children” and tells Christine and me that he loves the children and
that we need to love them too. It’s basic, but we have a lot of fun performing
it, and the kids seem to really enjoy watching it…especially when two big
teenage guys start throwing a temper tantrum!!
We performed
the same assembly at Marlborough Road Primary School today, and we even got
asked by the head teacher if some of us would be able to help them with their
Christmas play—which I’m really excited about!! Tomorrow we have lunch club at
North Grecian Street, and on Thursday we have an assembly as well as an after
school club at Brentnall Primary School. We also have youth club at Albert Park
on Wednesday and Thursday nights…so, as you can see, we have a full week!
I’m excited
about it, though, especially since the weather’s getting a lot colder—and I
love it!! I actually started listening to Christmas music on November 1st.
I feel like I’m allowed to start listening to Christmas music now instead of
after Thanksgiving since the Brit’s don’t celebrate it—that’s my justification
for listening to it, at least! 🙂
Pray this
week that our ministries would be fruitful and that we would continue building
meaningful and lasting relationships with the people here, and that God would
help us be able to get out of our comfort zones and initiate some God
conversations! Thank you to all of you who read this and who are praying for
and supporting me…you are all in my heart and prayers, especially during the
holiday season! God bless!
